People on the Move July 19 The summertime brings with it a flurry of activity in the mortgage industry as people move up the ladder and take on new roles

On July 19th, there were a number of notable people on the move in prominent positions.

Fannie Mae, a government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) focused on providing financial services to the mortgage lending industry, announced that Bill Emerson has been appointed as its new CEO. He will be taking over from current CEO Tim Mayopoulos, who is stepping down after nearly nine years in the role. Emerson was most recently the Vice Chairman of Quicken Loans and brings extensive experience in the fintech and banking space. In his new role, he will be responsible for driving the company’s strategy and navigating changes in the market.

Also on July 19th, Chase announced that Victoria Mason has been named the head of its newly created dedicated Originator business. The unit is intended to serve mortgage originators and correspondents, while leveraging Chase’s existing technology and processes to simplify the process of originating home loans. Mason brings considerable experience in the mortgage origination industry, including more than fifteen years at Bank of America and most recently five years as the head of correspondent lending at Flagstar Bank. She will be responsible for setting the vision for the new unit and leading its execution.

On the same day, Citi announced the appointment of Debbie Goldberg as its new Head of Mortgage Banking. Goldberg has been with Citi for over twenty-five years and is currently the head of its Home Equity Lending Unit. She will be taking over for current Head of Mortgage Banking Charles Wehland, who is retiring after thirty years of service. As part of her new role, Goldberg will be responsible for overseeing all of Citi’s mortgage-related operations across all lines of business.

Additionally, Rocket Mortgage, Quicken Loan’s digital mortgage platform, has appointed Mike Slocum as its new Chief Operating Officer. Slocum comes from a long career in the mortgage and banking industries, including several executive positions at Wells Fargo. He will be responsible for managing the development of new products and features as well as driving operational improvements at Rocket Mortgage.

Finally, American Pacific Mortgage, a retail mortgage lender, named Amy Brandt its new President. Brandt has held a number of senior roles in the mortgage industry, most recently as President of Gateway Mortgage Group’s consumer direct division. At APM, she will be tasked with helping the company grow by building on its existing foundation and expanding its presence in the broader mortgage market.

This week saw a number of prominent people in the mortgage industry undertake new positions at various companies. Bill Emerson was appointed CEO of Fannie Mae, Victoria Mason was named head of Chase’s new dedicated Originator business, Debbie Goldberg was selected as Head of Mortgage Banking at Citi, Mike Slocum was appointed Chief Operating Officer at Rocket Mortgage, and Amy Brandt was named President of American Pacific Mortgage. Each of these individuals brings an impressive resume to their respective positions, and they will be tasked with implementing new strategies and driving growth in the industry.
